2020 Hecla Triathlon - Cancelled
After many discussions, the Sulong Triathlon Group, hosts of the Hecla Triathlon, have made the decision to cancel the 2020 Hecla Triathlon. While the number of COVID cases in Manitoba are thankfully small, the provincial re-opening still holds much uncertainty at this point, especially as it relates to larger groups of people and sporting events, thereby making postponement not a viable option. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this pandemic.
With everyone’s health and safety top priority, including athletes, volunteers, spectators, community members, and other race support, we will refocus on 2021 and making the return to racing even better than it was!
We wish you all a safe and healthy summer and look forward to seeing you in 2021!
All those who had registered will be contacted directly with details and options.
The Hecla Triathlon will take place in Hecla, Manitoba, July 18, 2020. This race started in 2015 and has continued to grow and evolve each year since, and is now home to Manitoba's only Long Course race.
The event is popular, with approx. 200 racers, and tremendous athlete support to ensure the day goes smoothly.
The swim course is protected by the marina, guarding from what can be an unpredictable Lake Winnipeg, and the run to T1 (~650m) will allow you to shake out your sea legs in prep for your bike.
The bike course is flat and fast, lock and load, and keep your eyes open for wildlife!
Moving onto the run, you will experience both road and trail, skirting the marina and resort, and hugging the lake. This course will provide you both a physically and mentally challenging race, packed with stunning vistas all showcasing the beauty of the island.
